Roger Zahab

Roger Zahab is a Teaching Professor and Director of Orchestral Activities at the University of Pittsburgh, where he conducts the University Symphony Orchestra and teaches composition, orchestration, and violin. As founding core faculty at Vermont College of Fine Arts' MFA program, he mentors emerging composers.

His creative work explores temporal perception, memory structures, and interdisciplinary collaboration, resulting in orchestral works, operas, and chamber music performed internationally. Recent compositions include multimedia orchestral works, violin concertos, and experimental chamber pieces integrating video and improvisation.

Zahab's research examines 20th-century performance practices, particularly John Cage's indeterminate works. His upcoming recording project 'desire and magic' features contemporary art songs exploring intimate connections through voice and piano.
