معرفی
Professor Roger Webb is the Director of the Ion Beam Centre and holds a Professorship in Ion Beam Physics at the University of Surrey. He joined the Department in 1983 as a Research Fellow and oversees facilities like the UK National Ion Beam Centre. His roles include leading the Ion Beam Centre and chairing the Facilities Directorate.
Education: PhD in Mathematical Modelling of Atomic Collisions in Solids from the University of Salford's Electronic & Electrical Engineering Department. Prior to this, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, focusing on Molecular Dynamics and Computer Animations.
Research Interests: His work centers on energetic ion beam interactions with solids, including Molecular Dynamics simulations for cluster/molecular impacts and automation of ion beam analysis techniques (e.g., RBS, PIXE). Recent advancements include strained silicon research and cosmic dust impact studies on spacecraft.
Teaching: Leads the Multi Disciplinary Design Project module, teaches Instrumentation (Mech Eng), and offers postgraduate modules in Nanotechnology and Ion-Solid Interactions.
Grants & Collaborations: Secured £3 million for an imaging system and collaborated with Ionoptika on ion beam implantation. His 2022 research achieved record strain levels in silicon, impacting sensor technologies.
Labs & Facilities: Directs the Surrey Ion Beam Centre, a hub for ion beam analysis and materials research.
