Roger Romani is a Professor of Physics at Stanford University and a Senior Member of the Kavli Institute for Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology (KIPAC). His research focuses on compact objects and high-energy astrophysics, particularly pulsars and relativistic jets from supermassive black holes. Using the Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) mission, he investigates X-ray polarization to understand astrophysical accelerators and cosmic magnetic fields.
His work includes studying
- Black widow pulsar systems for neutron star mass measurements
- Pulsar synchrotron nebulae for TeV particle acceleration
- Relativistic jet formation in extreme environments
Recent publications emphasize IXPE's technical capabilities and applications to cosmic accelerators. He mentors doctoral students and teaches courses in astrophysics and cosmology, including Introduction to Stellar and Galactic Astrophysics and The Origin and Development of the Cosmos.
