Dr. Roger Newport is a Reader in Engaged Approaches to Psychological Science at Loughborough University’s School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences. He holds a PhD from Bangor University and has extensive experience in motor control, sensorimotor integration, and body illusions. His research focuses on body representations, particularly in disorders of perception and action rehabilitation, with notable contributions like the MIRAGE mediated-reality device (2008) and the 2012 Illusion of the Year award. Key interests include chronic pain management, autism, and neurorehabilitation.
Education: BA (Hons) Psychology (University of Wales, Bangor, 1995); part-time PhD (completed 2001). Career highlights include roles at the University of Nottingham and leadership in projects like the National Rehabilitation Centre collaboration.
Research explores how sensory signals (vision, touch, proprioception) shape body perception.
