Roger Navas-Solé is a DPhil (Doctor of Philosophy) student at the University of Oxford, affiliated with the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages. His research focuses on the reception of Cervantes’ Don Quijote in 19th-century France, analyzing scholarly texts and their intersection with societal themes such as individualism, public discourse, and bourgeois marriage dynamics. He explores how the novel’s interpretation evolved amid Romanticism and broader cultural shifts.
Teaching responsibilities include lecture series on Don Quijote and tutorial teaching on Balzac. His work bridges Spanish and French literary studies, emphasizing cross-cultural exchanges and intellectual history.
His publications reflect a focus on 19th-century French literary criticism, Romanticism’s legacy, and narrative techniques in works like Flaubert’s Madame Bovary. Supervised by Professors Andrew Counter and Jonathan W. Thacker, his research themes span French and Spanish literary traditions.
