Professor Roger Magnusson holds the position of Professor of Health Law and Governance at the University of Sydney Law School, University of Sydney. His academic roles include membership in the Charles Perkins Centre and extensive engagement with global health governance. He earned a BA LLB (Hons) from ANU and a PhD from Melbourne University, followed by a GradDip in Managing Development.
Research interests focus on health law, policy, and bioethics—with emphasis on public health governance, non-communicable disease prevention (e.g., obesity, diabetes), tobacco control, and alcohol regulation. Key publications address euthanasia ethics, global health regulation frameworks, and legal strategies for NCD mitigation. Recent work explores human rights approaches to obesity and sustainable food systems.
Grants include leadership in the 2019 Australian Research Council project on food systems governance and collaborations in public health law networks. His work bridges legal systems, policy design, and health equity, advocating for evidence-based regulatory interventions to address global health challenges.
