Professor Jaime Miranda is a renowned academic leading the Sydney School of Public Health at the University of Sydney's Faculty of Medicine and Health. Previously, he served as a Full Professor and founding Director of the CRONICAS Center at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru. His work focuses on epidemiology and health policy for chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in low- and middle-income countries, with expertise in obesity, hypertension, diabetes, and mental health.
He holds advanced qualifications including MD, MSc, PhD, FFPH, and FMedSci. Miranda is affiliated with multiple institutes: Sydney Environment Institute, Sydney Policy Lab, Net Zero Institute, Brain and Mind Centre, and Charles Perkins Centre. His research emphasizes scalable interventions, such as salt substitution programs and mHealth solutions for diabetes management.
Key areas of research include urban health inequities, global health policy, and the social determinants of NCDs. He has led over 440 studies and contributed to UN initiatives like the Global Sustainable Development Report. Recent publications highlight life-course approaches to healthy aging, caregiving valuation, and dementia service readiness in Peru.
Miranda has secured grants such as the NSW Health Early Mid-Career Researcher Grant (2024) and Medical Research Council funding for diabetes prevention. Media engagements include TEDx talks, UN keynote speeches, and international journal articles on Peru’s health policies and pandemic responses.
