Roger L Nielsen

Dr. Roger L. Nielsen is be a Research Scientist IV in Geology and Geological Engineering at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, having retired from Oregon State University after 30 years as Professor and Department Chair. He holds a Ph.D. in Geology from Southern Methodist University.

His research employs experimental petrology, microanalysis, and geochemical modeling to investigate trace element partitioning, melt inclusion systems, and magmatic processes at mid-ocean ridges. Recent publications focus on optimizing geochemical databases and melt inclusion analysis techniques.

Dr. Nielsen develops policies for university faculty development and data-sharing infrastructure. He taught comprehensive earth science courses at Oregon State, including mineralogy, petrology, and geocommunication.
