Dr. Roger Kempers is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at York University's Lassonde School of Engineering. He leads the Advanced Thermofluids & Heat Transfer Research Lab (TF-LAB), focusing on thermal-fluid sciences and energy-efficient heat transfer technologies. Prior to academia, he worked at Nokia (Alcatel-Lucent) and Bell Labs Ireland, specializing in thermal management for telecommunications hardware.
Education:
- B.Eng. and M.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, McMaster University
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland
Research interests center on two-phase flow dynamics, thermal energy storage, additive manufacturing of heat transfer materials, and advanced cooling systems for electronics and power systems. His work addresses global energy challenges through innovative thermal technologies.
Key research themes include:
- Thermal-fluid systems for renewable energy integration
- 3D-printed heat sinks and composite materials
- Wick structure optimization for heat pipes
- Condensation and evaporation phenomena modeling
Notable contributions include development of additive-manufactured thermal interface materials and hybrid energy storage systems. His lab focuses on transitioning fundamental research into practical applications through industry partnerships.
