Roger J. Kreuz is an Associate Dean and Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Memphis, College of Arts & Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University (1985), with prior roles including Associate Chair of Psychology and Director of the Master of Science in General Psychology Program. His research focuses on psycholinguistics, discourse pragmatics, nonliteral language (irony/sarcasm), and computer-mediated communication. He has authored/co-authored influential books like Irony and Sarcasm (2020) and Changing Minds (2019), and over 100 journal articles.
Key awards include the University Research Professor (2021-2024) and Alumni Association Award for Research (2015). He has advised numerous graduate students and led grants totaling $1.7M, including NSF-funded projects on conversational dynamics and aging-language interactions. His work bridges cognitive science, linguistics, and social psychology, addressing how language shapes—and is shaped by—human cognition and society.
