He has also served as Lab Coordinator, developing lab manuals and training teaching assistants. His academic background includes an M.S. in Geology (1979) and M.Sci.Ed. in Science Education (1996) from the University of Houston and UNC-Chapel Hill.
- B.A. Earth Science (Honors) with Biology, UNC-Wilmington, 1976
- M.S. Geology, UNC-Chapel Hill, 1979
- M.Sci.Ed. Science Education, University of Houston, 1996
Roger’s research focuses on deepwater siliciclastic and carbonate depositional systems, with emphasis on reservoir characterization, seismic-stratigraphic analysis, and environmental studies of the North Carolina Coastal Plain. He specializes in turbidite systems, seismic stratigraphy, sedimentary petrology, and science education modules for K-12 teachers. His publications include key contributions to the AAPG Atlas of Deep-water Outcrops and field guides for national parks.
His recent publications highlight deepwater reservoir analogs, coastal plain environmental studies, and interdisciplinary science education. These works integrate outcrop analysis, subsurface data, and modern analogs to address geological and environmental challenges.
