Roger Buck is a Lamont Research Professor at Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) and an Adjunct Professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences. He serves as Associate Director of LDEO, overseeing research initiatives in geophysics, climate science, and planetary tectonics. His work focuses on ice shelf dynamics, mid-ocean ridge tectonics, and Venusian geology, with a strong emphasis on integrating observational data with numerical modeling.
Research interests include the mechanical behavior of ice shelves under climate stress, magmatic processes at mid-ocean ridges, and the tectonic evolution of Venusian highland systems. His recent studies highlight buoyancy-driven crevassing mechanisms, slab window geodynamics, and the role of freshwater in ice shelf destabilization.
