Rodrigo Adao is an Associate Professor at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, specializing in international trade and its implications for welfare and inequality. He holds a PhD in Economics from MIT and previously earned a BA and MA in Economics from Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio). His research bridges theoretical and empirical economics, focusing on globalization's effects, technological transitions, and spatial linkages in labor markets.
- Faculty Research Fellow, National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER)
- Associate Editor, Journal of International Economics
His work explores trade policy analysis, labor market dynamics, and the economic consequences of technological change. Recent publications examine the redistributive effects of tariffs, the evaluation of quantitative trade models, and the interplay between trade and earnings inequality in Ecuador.
Adao investigates spatial equilibrium effects of trade shocks through frameworks incorporating regional interdependencies, advancing methodologies like Model-implied Optimal IV (MOIV) for estimating spatial linkages. His empirical studies analyze U.S. labor markets and the long-term impacts of cognitive-biased innovations on generational skill distribution.
