Rodney C. Ewing is the Frank Stanton Professor in Nuclear Security and Professor of Geological Sciences at Stanford University, where he co-directs the Center for International Security and Cooperation. He holds emeritus status at the University of Michigan and University of New Mexico, where he was a faculty member from 1974–1997. His research focuses on radiation effects in minerals and materials, particularly in nuclear waste disposal and nuclear security.
- Education: B.S. (Texas Christian University, 1968), M.S. and Ph.D. (Stanford University, 1972–1974)
- Key Roles: Former chair of the Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board (2012–2017), president of the Mineralogical Society of America (2002), and co-editor of Elements and Geochemical Perspective Letters.
His work spans mineralogy, geochemistry, and materials science, with over 750 publications and contributions to innovations like ceramics for plutonium immobilization. Awards include the Lomonosov Gold Medal and Guggenheim Fellowship.
