Roderick Coover is a Professor and Director of the Digital Arts & Experimental Media (DAEM) and Digital Media Performance (DMP) programs at Temple University's School of Theater, Film and Media Arts. He also co-directs the MA program in Film and Media Arts. His academic background includes a BA from Cornell University (1989), MA from Brown University (1994), and PhD in the history of culture with a focus on media arts and anthropology from the University of Chicago (1999).
Coover's research spans experimental film, digital humanities, visual anthropology, and interdisciplinary media practices. He has produced notable works such as Unknown Territories (2011), Vérité to Virtual (2008), and Cultures in Webs (2003), alongside scholarly contributions to journals like Visual Studies and books like Switching Codes (2011). His work examines the intersection of new technologies and creative practices in the humanities.
His recent exhibitions include Currency (2011) and Something That Happened Only Once, while his editorial roles span the Electronic Literature Organization and Visual Studies. Awards include a Fulbright-Hays Fellowship and LEF Foundation grant. Coover teaches courses blending production and theory, focusing on experimental methods and cross-cultural media practices.
