Roderick Clark

Roderick Clark, MD, MSc is an Assistant Professor with dual appointments in the Department of Urology and Department of Public Health Sciences at Penn State University, where he is also affiliated with the Penn State Cancer Institute's Cancer Control program. As a fellowship-trained Surgical Oncologist specializing in urologic cancers, Dr. Clark maintains an active clinical practice with comprehensive expertise in prostate cancer management across the entire care continuum from screening to end-of-life care.

Dr. Clark's educational background includes a Doctor of Medicine and Master of Science in Community Health and Epidemiology from Dalhousie University, followed by residency at Western University of Western Ontario, and dual fellowships in Urologic Oncology at the University of Toronto and in Familial Breast Cancer Research at Women's College Research Institute.

His research program focuses on the epidemiology, genetics, and clinical management of urologic cancers, with particular emphasis on prostate cancer. Dr. Clark investigates how to better identify and treat individuals at high-risk of dying from prostate cancer and analyzes changing population-level trends in urologic cancers using large administrative databases. His research output shows increasing productivity with 9 publications in 2022 alone, totaling 31 research outputs to date.

Dr. Clark has received six teaching awards during his training, including the University of Toronto MD Teaching Excellence Award and multiple University of Western Ontario teaching recognitions. He serves as a problem-based learning facilitator at the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and actively participates in the Department of Urology's educational mandate.

Clinically, Dr. Clark has advanced training in numerous specialized techniques including MRI and micro-ultrasound targeted prostate biopsy, transperineal prostate biopsy, focal therapies for prostate cancer (with emphasis on high-intensity focused ultrasound), SpaceOAR hydrogel administration, robotic prostate cancer surgery, and salvage pelvic lymph node dissection/metastatectomy. He maintains board eligibility with the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada.
