Professor Robyn Mayes is a Professor and Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Business & Law at QUT. She holds a PhD from Curtin University and specializes in Human Geography and Gender Studies, focusing on corporate social responsibility, gender in organizations, gig economy work, and labour migration. Her research bridges multi-disciplinary approaches to address systemic inequalities in STEMM, digital platforms, and resource extraction sectors.
Key roles include Founding Director of QUT’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research & Engagement Strategy (2020-23), Chair of QUT’s Equity Committee (2021-22), and Board member of the Immigrant Women’s Emergency Support Service (2016-2020). She has secured over $2M in ARC and industry grants, leading projects like achieving gender equality in STEMM research careers and analyzing digital platform work in Australia.
Her research explores intersections of gender, work, and migration across contexts such as FIFO labor, temporary transnational migration, and resource extraction governance. Notable publications include work on gig economy care labor, platform work gender dynamics, and socio-political stakeholder environments in mining.
Awardees include the 2021 SAGE Prize for Innovation & Excellence and the QUT Vice-Chancellor’s Partnership Award. She advises on national policy initiatives like the Australian Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative and contributes to international forums on labour rights and social justice.
