Professor Robyn L. Rosen serves as Professor of History in Marist College's School of Liberal Arts, teaching U.S. History and Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies since 1994. Her leadership includes former roles as Department Chair, Honors Director, and First Year Seminar Director, with current responsibilities advising the Long Reach Society and co-leading a Spring Attachment program on Southern civil rights history.
Her educational background features a BA from Brandeis University and MA/PhD from Binghamton University:
- BA: Brandeis University
- MA/PhD: Binghamton University
Rosen's research centers on American women’s political activism with dual emphases: historical analysis of 20th-century birth control movements and contemporary examinations of reproductive rights politics. Her evolving scholarship now incorporates men’s responses to 1970s feminism, demonstrating how historical patterns inform current debates through rigorous archival work and policy analysis.
Publication trends reveal consistent scholarly engagement spanning three decades, with recent work like the 2024 Cultural Studies article connecting historical Planned Parenthood strategies to post-Roe challenges. Earlier research established foundational understanding of maternal welfare politics (1998) and interwar birth control battlegrounds (2009), while her 2003 monograph remains a key text in reproductive rights historiography.
Her scholarly recognition includes:
- Faculty Recognition Award for Distinguished Scholarship (Marist College, 2009)
- Board of Trustees Distinguished Teaching Award (Marist College, 2005)
As an educator, Rosen maintains robust student engagement through innovative courses like 'Why Barbie?' and 'History of American Manhood,' alongside experiential learning via the Southern civil rights trip. Her Spring Attachment program exemplifies active mentorship, bringing students to pivotal historical sites while modeling interdisciplinary research methods.
Though not leading a formal laboratory, Rosen cultivates scholarly community through the Long Reach Society and collaborative teaching initiatives, emphasizing applied historical understanding in contemporary social justice contexts.
