Robinson Fulweiler is a Professor in the Department of Earth & Environment and Biology at Boston University's College of Arts & Sciences, and an Affiliated Faculty member of the Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS). She leads the Fulweiler Lab, conducting research in ecosystems ecology and biogeochemistry.
Her educational background includes:
- PhD in Oceanography from the Graduate School of Oceanography, University of Rhode Island
- MS in Oceanography from the Graduate School of Oceanography, University of Rhode Island
- BA in International Studies (Canadian) from the University of Vermont
Fulweiler's research focuses on energy flow and biogeochemical cycling of nutrients, carbon, and oxygen in various environments. She investigates how human activities impact ecosystem ecology and elemental cycling, from local nutrient loading to global climate change. Her current work centers on the land-ocean continuum, nitrogen fate in marine environments, climate change effects on benthic-pelagic coupling, and coastal systems' role in greenhouse gas budgets.
Her scientific awards include:
- Sloan Fellowship
- Cronin Award, Coastal Estuarine Research Federation
- Metcalf Cup and Prize
Fulweiler is a dedicated mentor, as recognized by the Metcalf Cup and Prize. She is also a passionate advocate for women and parents, especially mothers, in science, striving to create an equitable scientific community.
She heads the Fulweiler Lab at Boston University, which conducts field and laboratory research on coastal and marine ecosystems.
