Robin Willaert is a Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, KU Leuven, affiliated with the Department of Imaging & Pathology and the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery unit. He is actively involved in research on craniomaxillofacial surgery, additive manufacturing for medical implants, and computer-assisted virtual surgery. His work focuses on improving surgical outcomes through advanced technologies and patient-specific approaches.
Dr. Willaert's research interests span craniomaxillofacial reconstruction, 3D printing applications in medicine, and surgical planning techniques. He investigates how additive manufacturing can create reliable, patient-specific mandibular implants and how virtual surgical planning improves outcomes in complex craniofacial cases. His work bridges clinical practice with technological innovation to address challenges in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on applying advanced technologies to solve clinical problems in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Key themes include patient-specific implants, virtual surgical planning, 3D evaluation techniques, and the application of additive manufacturing in reconstructive procedures. His research shows a consistent trajectory toward integrating digital technologies with clinical practice to improve patient outcomes.
Dr. Willaert serves as a member of the Faculty Council of Medicine and the Departmental Council for Imaging & Pathology at KU Leuven. He is also affiliated with Leuven.AM – KU Leuven Institute for Additive Manufacturing, where he contributes his expertise in medical applications of 3D printing technologies. His current research projects span from 2022 to 2029, indicating active grant funding and ongoing research initiatives.
