Prof. Dr. Robin Stark is a full Professor at the University of Saarland, where he holds the Chair for Personality Development and Education within the Faculty of Educational Sciences. His research integrates educational psychology, teacher training, health psychology, and medical education, with a strong emphasis on scientific reasoning, epistemological beliefs, and competence development.
His primary research interests include:
- Scientific thinking and argumentation in teacher and psychology education
- Development of diagnostic and wisdom-related competencies in medical students
- Epistemological beliefs as promotable, domain-specific cognitive competencies
- Error-based and problem-oriented learning in science education
- Promotion of health behavior through psychological interventions
- Inclusive education and pedagogical development in heterogeneous classrooms
His recent and ongoing projects, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the University of Saarland, explore evidence-informed educational practices, empathy training for teachers, measurement invariance in latent variables, and the integration of self- and other-error learning in science classrooms. He leads the scientific evaluation of Saarland’s inclusive school model, focusing on instructional development and teacher attitudes.
Prof. Stark has secured external funding from the DFG and the Saarland Ministry of Education, and collaborates with institutions such as LMU Munich and the University of Vienna. He has developed and evaluated learning environments that foster key competencies in education and medicine, particularly through reflective error analysis and context-sensitive assessment methods.
He has supervised research staff including Dr. Christoph Paulus, Dr. Martin Klein, and Dr. Eric Klopp, and collaborates with Prof. Andrea Möller (University of Vienna) on science education projects. His methodological approach combines experimental interventions, qualitative interviews, think-aloud protocols, and questionnaire-based assessments.
