Robin Ng is a Post-Doctoral Researcher and Instructor at the Department of Economics, University of Mannheim. He is affiliated with CRC TR 224 B05 and MaCCI, and holds the SSRC GRF. In the fall semester 2025, he will be visiting Singapore Management University (August), ESMT (September), and University of Copenhagen (October).

Dr. Ng's research interests lie at the intersection of Industrial Organisation and Behavioural Economics, with a focus on the Digital economy, Platform design and regulation, and Digital media. His work explores how digital platforms operate, how users interact with them, and the economic implications of these interactions. He employs both theoretical modeling and experimental approaches to understand complex digital market dynamics.
His research output shows a strong focus on rating systems, platform economics, and content moderation. His papers examine how ratings can be manipulated ('harvested'), how free and open-source software communities coordinate, how heterogeneous preferences affect rating interpretation, and how content moderation impacts communication on online platforms.

As an educator, Robin Ng teaches Microeconomics A, Internet Economics, Digital Markets, and Internet Economics Seminar at the University of Mannheim, and Economic Ideas and Models and Statistics at Singapore University of Social Sciences. He has experience teaching in diverse settings including online, in-person, large lectures, small groups, and individual instruction for ages 9 to 54. He also serves as a teaching assistant and has designed curriculum for secondary to pre-university levels.
