Robin Lanzi is a Professor of Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), holding appointments in the School of Public Health’s Health Behavior Department, the College of Arts and Sciences (Psychology), and the School of Medicine (Pediatric-Adolescent Medicine). He also holds roles as Director of Academic Programs, Behavioral and Community Sciences Core Co-Director, and various leadership positions in HIV/AIDS research initiatives. Lanzi earned a Ph.D. in Social & Behavioral Science from UAB (1996) and a Master of Public Health (1995).
His research focuses on HIV/AIDS prevention, health disparities, implementation science, and sexual health interventions, particularly among Black adolescent girls and young women in the Deep South. He leads community-based studies, provider training programs, and policy analyses to address barriers in PrEP access and HIV treatment. His work also extends to mental health during crises (e.g., COVID-19), disability wellness, and faith-based health initiatives.
Notable projects include the Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) Implementation Science Consultation Hub, the PrEP Pro provider training initiative, and the SAAFE mobile game for youth sexual health education. Lanzi has secured grants from NIH, CDC, and private foundations, totaling over 20 active funding sources.
Awards include the Faculty Fellow in Engaged Scholarship (2017, 2018) and recognition as a finalist for the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. He advises multiple research teams, chairs academic committees, and collaborates with national networks like the Network for Implementation Science in HIV (NISH).
His teaching and mentorship emphasize interdisciplinary approaches to public health challenges, with a focus on training future researchers in participatory methods and equity-centered strategies.
