Robin Hobbs is an Adjunct Associate Professor (Research) at the Hudson Institute's Centre for Reproductive Health and Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute (Monash University). His research focuses on germline stem cells (SSCs) in adult testis, particularly their self-renewal mechanisms and differentiation pathways. He uses mouse models to study transcription factors and signaling pathways critical for SSC function, with applications to stem cell and fertility fields.
- Current roles: Adjunct Associate Professor (Research)
- Affiliations: Hudson Institute & Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute
Key research interests include stem cell biology, cell signaling networks, transcriptional regulation, and fertility-related mechanisms. His work addresses how intrinsic factors and niche-derived growth factors interact to maintain SSC populations. Techniques employed include in vitro culture, flow cytometry, and molecular biology.
Recent projects include investigating the RNA helicase DDX5's role in male germline stem cells (2022–2025), and regulatory networks defining stem cell populations (2019–2021). He collaborates internationally on studies related to male reproductive disorders and stem cell regulatory landscapes.
Hobbs supervises PhD students through Monash University and has secured grants from the Australian Research Council and international partnerships. His lab's work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and innovation.
