Dr. Robia G. Pautler is a Professor at the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics within Baylor College of Medicine. Her research focuses on developing and applying Manganese-Enhanced MRI (MEMRI) for high-resolution in vivo imaging of neuronal structure and function, particularly in neurodegenerative contexts like Alzheimer's disease. She also collaborates on developing 19F-EuII-based contrast agents for hypoxia imaging in tumors.
Education:
- Ph.D., Carnegie Mellon University (1999)
- B.S., Colorado State University (1993)
Research Interests include axonal transport, neurophysiology, biomedical imaging, and gene expression in Alzheimer's disease and neurodegenerative conditions. Her work leverages MEMRI to track dynamic changes in neuronal activity and explore therapeutic interventions like antioxidant therapies and superoxide modulation. Recent publications highlight applications of MRI in traumatic brain injury, pancreatic cancer targeting, and developmental biology.
Collaborations include chemist Dr. Matt Allen and pediatric oncologist Dr. Jason Yustein, focusing on hypoxia-responsive contrast agents. She has no listed scientific awards, but her lab has contributed to understanding neuroinflammation, intestinal intussusception, and mitochondrial superoxide's role in neurodegeneration.
The Pautler Lab investigates longitudinal axonal transport deficits in Alzheimer's models, oxidative stress impacts, and novel imaging probes. Key projects include 19F-EuII contrast agents for tumor hypoxia and carbon particles for neuroprotection in traumatic brain injury.
