Roberto Hernandez is a President's Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Mathematics at the University of California, Irvine, collaborating with Professor Nathan Kaplan. His research specializes in arithmetic geometry and number theory, focusing on rational points on algebraic curves through methods like Dem'yanenko-Manin.
Education:
- B.A. in Mathematics, California State University, Fullerton (2020)
- M.S. in Mathematics, Emory University
- Ph.D. in Mathematics, Emory University (Dissertation: "Rational Points on a Family of Genus 3 Hyperelliptic Curves"; Advisor: David Zureick-Brown)
Hernandez's work centers on rational points in hyperelliptic curves, bridging number theory and algebraic geometry to address fundamental Diophantine problems. His research has been presented in venues like the Café con Leche lecture series.
Awards:
- President's Postdoctoral Fellowship
Hernandez has not yet advised graduate students but actively promotes diversity through MAA Graduate Student Blog contributions ("Being Brown in Higher Education", "First-Generation Guilt", "Finding your Community") and co-organizing the JUICE colloquium at Emory. His teaching includes Calculus I/II instruction at Emory University.
