Roberto Guevara is an Associate Professor in International Development at RMIT University's School of Global, Urban and Social Studies. He holds affiliations with the EU Centre of Excellence at RMIT and has served as an Honorary Fellow at the Australian Youth Research Centre (2009–2011). His research focuses on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), Global Citizenship Education, participatory action research, and international aid and development. He has led projects across Asia-Pacific, including UNESCO-funded initiatives in Lao PDR, Southeast Asia, and Vietnam.
Key activities include teaching in international studies programs, supervising Masters and PhD students, and leading study tours in the Philippines, Myanmar, and Vietnam. He has secured funding from the Australian Research Council (ARC) for projects like 'Youth-led Learning: Local Connections and Global Citizenship' (with Plan International) and 'School-Community Learning Partnerships for Sustainability' (with Sustainability Victoria).
Notable awards include the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame (2012), CONFINTEA Research Scholarship (2016), and multiple RMIT teaching excellence recognitions. His recent research examines curriculum integration for sustainable development, community resilience, and transformative education policies.
Guevara collaborates with global organizations like UNESCO, the Asia-Pacific Cultural Centre for UNESCO (ACCU), and the Global Campaign for Education (GCE). He chairs committees for the International Council of Adult Education (ICAE) and Action Research Issues Association (ARIA).
