Jacqui True is a Professor of International Relations and Director of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for the Elimination of Violence against Women (CEVAW) at Monash University. She holds a Global Fellowship at the Peace Research Institute (PRIO) in Oslo and has held academic roles at institutions including the University of Southern California and the University of Auckland. Her expertise centers on the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda, gender-based violence in conflict, and violent extremism, funded by organizations like the Australian Research Council and UN. She received an honorary doctorate from Lund University (2018) and was named one of the 100 most influential persons in Gender Policy (2021).
Education: PhD from York University (Canada), honorary doctorate from Lund University (2018). Key research focuses include the political economy of violence against women, Asia-Pacific conflict dynamics, and feminist methodologies. Current projects include assessing WPS initiatives in Cambodia/Lao PDR and leading the ARC-funded CEVAW Centre.
Research Interests: Intersection of gender, peace, security, and global governance. Recent work explores pandemic impacts on gender equality and feminist foreign policy frameworks. Awards include the 2012 APSA Human Rights Book Prize and 2015 APSS Carole Pateman Prize.
Advising/Grants: Supervises PhD projects on gender and security; leads multidisciplinary teams across 24+ funded projects since 2014. Collaborations include ANU, Griffith University, and international partners like UNFPA and the Asia Foundation.
