Roberta Pierattelli is a Full Professor of Chemistry at the University of Florence, affiliated with the Magnetic Resonance Center (CERM) and the Department of Chemistry. Her research focuses on applying NMR spectroscopy to study protein structure, function, and interactions, particularly in intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) and metalloproteins. She holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Florence and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Southampton (UK). Her work bridges structural biology and biophysics, with a strong emphasis on developing NMR methodologies for characterizing dynamic protein systems.
Education: BSc and PhD in Chemistry from the University of Florence (Italy). Postdoctoral research at the University of Southampton (UK).
Research interests include NMR spectroscopy, structural biology of disordered proteins, metalloprotein dynamics, and drug design targeting IDPs. Her lab has contributed to understanding the role of proline residues in protein disorder, the structural basis of viral proteins (e.g., HPV, SARS-CoV-2), and the development of novel NMR techniques for high-resolution protein analysis.
Recent publications highlight advancements in NMR methods (e.g., 13C direct detection, TROSY experiments) and applications to study protein interactions, aggregation, and conformational ensembles. Her work often involves interdisciplinary collaborations, integrating computational modeling and experimental data to address biological questions.
