Roberta Gemmiti

Roberta Gemmiti is a Full Professor of Economic Geography at Sapienza University of Rome, where she has been a faculty member since 1994. She is affiliated with the Department of Methods and Models for Economics, Territory and Finance within the Faculty of Economics. Professor Gemmiti serves as President of the Master's Degree Programme in Economics of Environment, Culture and Tourism since 2024 and has held various leadership positions including Editor in chief of the Department's Annals (2013-2025).

Her research interests focus on Urban Development, Sustainable Development and Planning, Ordinary Cities, Tourism, and Environmental Justice. She has conducted extensive research on Rome's urban policies and the relationship between globalization and regional competitiveness. In recent years, her work has increasingly centered on environmental justice in Italian contaminated sites, examining socio-demographic patterns in Sites of National Interest for remediation.

Professor Gemmiti has published extensively in her field, with recent work focusing on environmental justice, urban tourism sustainability, and global-local dynamics. Her publications span both Italian and international journals, demonstrating her commitment to contributing to both national and global academic discourse.

Her notable achievements include leading the Sapienza SEED Project on environmental justice in Italy and coordinating the PRIN Project 'Mind – Mountains Inside the Mountain.' She is also actively involved in several professional organizations including the Italian Geographical Society, the Italian Association of Geography Teachers, and the Association of Italian Geographers.

Professor Gemmiti teaches multiple courses across various degree programs at Sapienza, including Economic Geography, Local Development, Environment and Culture, and courses in English on Advanced Economic Geography. Her teaching spans both undergraduate and graduate levels across the Faculties of Economics, Arts, and Sociology.
