Robert Xu is a Lecturer in the Department of Linguistics at Harvard University, with an upcoming appointment as Visiting Assistant Professor at Oberlin College starting Fall 2025. His research focuses on sociolinguistics, phonetics, and linguistic anthropology, particularly examining speech prosody and its role in social interaction, gender, and sexuality. He holds a PhD from Stanford University, where his dissertation explored embodied linguistic styles and dialogic sociolinguistic structures in Beijing through prosodic analysis.
Education: PhD in Linguistics from Stanford University (dissertation supervised by Penny Eckert and Rob Podesva).
