Robert Wachter, MD, is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He is renowned as the 'father of hospital medicine' after coining the term 'hospitalist' in 1996. His leadership roles include past presidency of the Society of Hospital Medicine and chairmanship of the American Board of Internal Medicine.
