Robert M. Wachter, MD is Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), School of Medicine. He is a leading figure in hospital medicine, patient safety, digital health, and healthcare policy.

His recent publications highlight the transformative potential and risks of AI in clinical settings, digital equity, e-consult systems, and the evolution of hospital medicine. He has authored over 300 articles and six books, including the New York Times bestseller The Digital Doctor, and is working on a new book, A Giant Leap: How AI is Transforming Healthcare, to be published in 2026.
