Robert W. Erickson

Robert W. Erickson is a Professor of Electrical, Computer, and Energy Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder. He co-directs the Colorado Power Electronics Center (CoPEC) and specializes in power electronics and renewable energy systems. His research focuses on modeling, control of power conversion systems, modular/multilevel converters, and applications in electric vehicles and renewable energy (wind/solar).

He received B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology (1978-1982). He served as Department Chair from 2002-2006 and 2014-2015. Notable awards include the IEEE Fellow distinction, CU-Boulder Inventor of the Year (2015), and Holland Teaching Excellence Award (2010). His textbook Fundamentals of Power Electronics (2nd ed.) is widely recognized.

Key accomplishments include over 100 journal/conference publications and leadership in advancing power electronics for sustainable energy systems. His work bridges theoretical advancements with practical applications in clean energy technologies.
