Robert W Pitz

Robert W. Pitz is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Vanderbilt University’s School of Engineering. His research focuses on laser diagnostics applied to combustion processes, including laminar/turbulent combustion, pollutant formation, and supersonic combustion. He leads the Laser Diagnostics of Combustion Laboratory, where advanced laser techniques like Raman scattering, laser-induced fluorescence, and molecular tagging velocimetry are used to study flame dynamics. His work integrates experimental measurements with computational simulations to investigate turbulence-chemistry interactions and fluid mixing. He holds a Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California and Purdue University.
