His academic career includes leadership roles at the University of Marburg and Technical University Munich. He holds honorary positions at institutions such as the University of Oxford and Kyoto University. Tampé’s research focuses on membrane proteins, molecular machines, and immunological mechanisms, particularly the structure and function of ABC transporters and MHC class I complexes. He has received prestigious awards including two ERC Advanced Grants and EMBO Membership.
His educational background includes a PhD and Diploma in Chemistry from TU Darmstadt, followed by postdoctoral training at Stanford University. Tampé leads major research initiatives like the Collaborative Research Center (CRC 1507) on membrane protein assemblies. His work integrates structural biology, live-cell imaging, and nanotechnology to study antigen presentation and cellular transport mechanisms.
Notable achievements include groundbreaking studies on T-cell receptor-ligand interactions and the development of light-controllable antibodies. He serves on editorial boards of top journals and holds leadership roles in international research networks. His research impacts vaccine design, cancer immunotherapy, and membrane biology.
