Robert Stam is a University Professor in the Martin Scorsese Department of Cinema Studies at New York University. He holds a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, and has taught globally at institutions in France, Tunisia, Brazil, Germany, and NYU-Abu Dhabi. His research focuses on film theory, multiculturalism, postcolonial studies, and adaptation studies. Stam has authored/co-authored over 15 books, including seminal works like Unthinking Eurocentrism and Film Theory: An Introduction, and has received prestigious awards such as the Guggenheim Fellowship and the Jim Welsh Prize for Excellence in Adaptation Studies. His recent work explores transnational media and global cultural commons.

He advises doctoral candidates such as Leonard Cortana, whose work on anti-racist activism he supervises. His grants and fellowships reflect sustained scholarly impact in global cultural studies.
