Dr. Robert Stagg is an Assistant Professor of English and Director of the New Variorum Shakespeare at Texas A&M University. He specializes in Shakespearean and early modern studies, with a focus on poetic form, global influences, and textual analysis. His research has been funded by the Leverhulme Trust and Wolfson Foundation, and his work has been recognized with the Charles Oldham Shakespeare Prize and shortlistings for major literary awards.
Education: PhD from the University of Southampton and University of London (2018), MSt from the University of Oxford (2012), BA from the University of Cambridge (2010). Current roles include Arden Shakespeare Fourth Series Fellow and leadership in international Shakespeare conferences. His research explores Shakespeare's blank verse, cross-cultural literary connections, and the intersection of style with global contexts.
Recent work includes the book Shakespeare's Blank Verse: An Alternative History (2022) and the upcoming Shakespeare's Worldly Style, which examines non-European influences on Shakespeare. He has held visiting fellowships at institutions worldwide, including Waseda University (Tokyo) and the University of Verona.
