Dr. Robert Sorge is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, College of Arts and Sciences. He directs the INSPIRE Lab which studies pain across the translational spectrum, including acute/chronic pain mechanisms, neuroimmunology, and pain genetics.
Education includes B.S. in Psychology from McMaster University (Canada), M.A. in Experimental Psychology from Wilfrid Laurier University (Canada), and Ph.D. in Psychology from Concordia University (Canada). He completed postdoctoral training at McGill University.
Dr. Sorge's research explores biological mechanisms of pain sensitivity, neuroimmune interactions in chronic pain, genetic influences on pain perception, and dietary impacts on pain outcomes. His work utilizes both rodent models and human clinical populations.
Recent publications investigate the neural mechanisms of diet-pain interactions, RNA regulation in neuroinflammation, psychosocial mediators of chronic pain, and intersectional approaches to pain disparities. Research consistently bridges basic science with clinical applications.
