Dr. Robert Schroth is a Professor and Clinician Scientist at the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry, University of Manitoba. He holds cross-appointments in the Department of Community Health Sciences and the Department of Pediatrics and Child Health at the Max Rady College of Medicine. Additionally, he serves as a Scientist at the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba and works as a Staff Dentist at Mount Carmel Clinic and the Centre for Community Oral Health.

Dr. Schroth is a leading researcher in Early Childhood Caries (ECC), focusing on nutrition, prenatal factors, and social determinants of oral health in vulnerable populations such as Indigenous, rural, and Hutterite preschool communities. His epidemiological research has informed prevention strategies and policy development. He co-leads the Healthy Smile Happy Child initiative, funded by Manitoba Health, which integrates community development, education, and research to improve oral health outcomes in Manitoba.
Dr. Schroth’s research has earned him tenure at the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry. He chairs committees like the Canadian Dental Association’s Committee on Clinical and Scientific Affairs and the Oral Health Program Standards Committee at Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. His work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement, particularly in promoting oral health for refugee children and underserved populations.
As a Clinician Scientist, Dr. Schroth combines academic research with clinical practice, serving as a Staff Dentist at Mount Carmel Clinic, Centre for Community Oral Health, and Access Downtown. His leadership roles include acting as Division Head of Community Dentistry and Section Head of Pediatric Dentistry at the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry.
