Mary Bertone is an Associate Professor and Director of the School of Dental Hygiene at the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry, University of Manitoba. She is actively engaged in research and community service, focusing on improving oral health outcomes for diverse populations.

Research Interests: Bertone’s work centers on geriatric dentistry, preventive oral care for families and young children, community engagement with Indigenous populations, and quality assurance initiatives in dental hygiene practice. Her research integrates public health and clinical practice to enhance care delivery.
Leadership and Community Involvement: She serves as President of the National Dental Hygiene Examination Board and Chair of the Educators Advisory Committee to the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association. Bertone has also held roles in long-term care facilities, remote communities, and private practices, and continues to provide care in Churchill, Manitoba.
Grants and Research: She has participated in numerous research teams supported by provincial and national grants, advancing community-focused oral health programs.
