Robert Schertzer is an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Toronto, with teaching responsibilities at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) for undergraduate courses and at the St. George campus for graduate courses. He is cross-appointed to the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy, reflecting his interdisciplinary engagement in Canadian and comparative politics, focusing on federalism, constitutional law, nationalism, and diversity.
His research expertise spans institutional analysis, governance, and policy frameworks, particularly in Canada and globally. He co-founded the State of Nationalism, an open-access portal for nationalism studies, and advises the Association for the Study of Ethnicity and Nationalism (ASEN), a leading research group in this field.
Before academia, he worked for the Government of Canada, notably as a Senior Policy Advisor in Citizenship and Immigration Canada, contributing to the design of the Express Entry economic immigration system. His recent book, Privacy (University of Toronto Press, 2016), underscores his scholarly contributions.
