Robert Sanford is a faculty member in the Department of Environmental Science & Policy at the University of Southern Maine, where he has served since 1996. He holds a PhD in Environmental Science from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, along with an MS in the same field and a BA in Anthropology (Summa cum laude) from SUNY Potsdam.
His research interests include Environmental Planning, Cultural Resources Management, and Environmental Education. His scholarly work bridges ecological concerns with social science frameworks, emphasizing land use policy, educational pedagogy, and community-based environmental stewardship.
Sanford’s recent publications, such as Environmental Impact Assessment in the United States (2023) and Reading Rural Landscapes (2015), reflect his focus on policy analysis, historical landscape interpretation, and interdisciplinary teaching methods. His work often integrates archaeology, environmental science, and public education.
