Nancy Manring is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Ohio University's College of Arts and Sciences, where she also serves as Director of the Environmental Science and Sustainability program and Sustainability Theme Coordinator. She is a member of the Master of Science in Environmental Studies (MSES) Advisory Board and actively mentors thesis students.
Education:

- B.S. in Landscape Horticulture (summa cum laude), Ohio State University
Her research focuses on environmental politics, particularly collaborative dispute resolution in U.S. Forest Service public lands planning and democratic accountability in federal land management. She has also contributed significantly to sustainability education, co-founding the Kanawha Project to integrate climate and sustainability themes across university curricula. Her work has been published in leading journals such as Society & Natural Resources, Journal of Forestry, Public Administration Review, and Administration & Society.
Dr. Manring has developed and taught innovative courses on sustainability, environmental citizenship, and climate change politics. She was honored with the student-selected University Professor Award in 2013, recognizing her excellence in teaching and mentorship.

She advises MSES students on sustainability and environmental policy research and previously led the Public Dispute Resolution Program at Ohio University’s Institute for Local Government Administration and Rural Development. She co-facilitated the Ohio Wetlands Task Force, promoting collaborative policy development for wetlands protection.
Dr. Manring is actively engaged in academic leadership, curriculum innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly through initiatives like the Kanawha Project, which supports faculty development in sustainability education.
