Robert Ryan

Robert Ryan serves as Professor of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning and Department Chair at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he also directs the Dual Degree Masters' Program in Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning.

His research integrates interdisciplinary approaches to complex environmental challenges, specializing in landscape architecture, sustainable green infrastructure, and environment-behavior applications for design and planning. He develops curricula that bridge landscape architecture, regional planning, and allied environmental disciplines to prepare students for real-world problem-solving.

Notable professional recognition includes his Fellowship in the American Society of Landscape Architects (FASLA).

As Graduate Program Director, he oversees dual-degree education while teaching core courses including People and the Environment, graduate landscape/greenway planning studios, and sustainable infrastructure seminars. His work connects with the Center for Agriculture, Food, and the Environment at UMass Amherst.
