Robert Quillen Camp is an Assistant Professor of Theatre and Director of the Kelley and C.T. Fitzpatrick Center for Creativity, Design and the Arts at Sweet Briar College. He holds a B.A. in Theatre and Literature from Reed College, an M.F.A. in Playwriting from Brown University, and a Ph.D. in Theatre Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara. His work bridges theatrical scholarship and professional practice, focusing on the intersection of performance, technology, and spatial experience.
- Research Interests: Audience perception, immersive environments, and the role of technology in redefining theatrical form.
- Professional Plays: Includes the Obie Award-winning Chekhov Lizardbrain (Pig Iron Theatre), White on White (2022 NYT Critics’ Pick), and Franklin’s Key (upcoming 2025).
- Awards: Obie Award, Barrymore Award nomination, and recognition in academic journals like Theater and PAJ.
He teaches courses in acting, playwriting, dramaturgy, and theatre history. Notable collaborations include work with Pig Iron Theatre Company, Lewis & Clark College, and Hoi Polloi. His Franklin’s Secret City (2021) exemplifies his exploration of location-based digital performance.
