Professor Robert Plant is a Professor of Atmospheric Convection at the Department of Meteorology, University of Reading. He chairs the Staff Student Partnership Group and organizes the Department's careers fair. His research focuses on physics-dynamics interactions, particularly model parameterizations and their impacts on weather dynamics. Key interests include atmospheric convection's role in numerical models, synoptic-scale systems, boundary layer processes, and ensemble forecasting methodologies.
Research projects include Scale-adaptive sub-grid methods, mesoscale convective systems representation, and the Turbulent Processes programme. He supervises postdoctoral researchers and PhD students working on topics ranging from convective parameterization theory to forecast predictability.
