Robert Pekkanen is a Professor at the University of Washington's Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies, with adjunct appointments in Political Science and Sociology. His research focuses on electoral systems, political parties, civil society, and nonprofit advocacy. He has co-edited four volumes on Japanese elections and authored/co-authored 13 books, including award-winning works on Japanese civil society.
- PhD in Political Science from Harvard University (2002)
His recent publications examine comparative electoral systems and nonprofit-government dynamics. Awards include the Masayoshi Ohira Memorial Prize (2008), ISS/Oxford Prize (2014), and two JANPORA awards (2007, 2022). Research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, National Endowment for the Humanities, and Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission.
