Robert P. George

Robert P. George is the McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence and Director of the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University's Department of Politics. He holds academic appointments in both the Department of Politics and the Law School, reflecting his interdisciplinary focus on law, ethics, and political philosophy. His career includes service on high-profile commissions such as the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), the President’s Council on Bioethics, and UNESCO’s World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology (COMEST). He is a member of the American Academy of Sciences and Letters and the Council on Foreign Relations.

George earned a J.D. and M.T.S. from Harvard University, and degrees including D.Phil., B.C.L., D.C.L., and D.Litt. from Oxford University. His educational background spans philosophy, law, and theology, informing his research on natural law, constitutional interpretation, bioethics, and civil liberties.

His research interests center on the intersection of law, morality, and politics, with a focus on natural law theory, constitutional interpretation, and the ethical implications of scientific advancements.
