Robert P. Doyle is the Jack and Laura H. Milton Professor and Dean’s Professor of Chemistry at Syracuse University, with affiliations in the College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Synthetic Chemistry from the University of Dublin (2001) and has expertise in medicinal chemistry, peptide design, and drug delivery. His research focuses on developing therapies for obesity, type 2 diabetes, and opioid use disorder, leveraging vitamin B12 conjugation and peptide engineering. Notable contributions include the creation of GLP-1 receptor agonists and multiagonist peptides that mitigate side effects like nausea.
Doyle has authored over 80 publications, including recent work on chimeric peptides targeting obesity and opioid addiction. His grants include NIH-funded projects on metabolic syndrome treatments and GFRAL receptor antagonists. He teaches courses in medicinal chemistry, metals in medicine, and biochemical research. Awards include the Chancellor’s Citation for Excellence (2020) and endowed chairs recognizing his scholarly impact.
His lab explores peptide stability, FRET-based assays, and the role of GDF15 in emesis. Collaborations with institutions like the University of Pennsylvania and industry partners (e.g., Coronation Bio, Inc.) highlight translational research efforts. Future work emphasizes multiagonist therapies and understanding central nervous system effects of gastrointestinal hormones.
